Number of the Day ....Center

The instructions for "Number of the Day" activities are included in the MFW 1st grade student sheets.  I simply laminated the cardstock page for durability.

Number of the Day Activity Center

I do have more than required for MFW 1st grade in this area.  I didn't realize how much until I went to note the extras and found it was easier to note the core material... hee, hee...  So, I will highlight the core material.

At the top is a "Pledge to the Bible" poster that I bought at a school supply store.  I thought I would start having us say the pledge to the American Flag (which you cannot see) on a regular basis.  I thought it also should include this pledge.  Right now we are focusing on it until he has it memorized.  Then I will add in the pledge to the American Flag.  Priorities.....

"Days in School":  This will reinforce the "Expanded Form Cards" in the student sheets.  This is from Mama Jenn's post here.  I only cut her sheet apart so I could use the command hooks I already owned. (In other words, don't cut off the ends of the ham just because grandma always did....)

CORE (with extras) Under the "Days in School" is the sheet I made for the "Number of the Day Sheet" with the line(s) described on the "Number of the Day" instruction card.  ...phew...  The side shown is for days 1-9.  The one below is for days 10 & greater.  I laminated it and placed a Velcro dot on both top corners and on both sides; I can simply turn it around when we get to day 10.  I found dry erase markers do not erase well on lamination (or at least not the ones I've tried), so we have been using dry erase crayons and they erase much easier.
The one on the wall is the one I fill out.  I have one in my son's binder for him to do along with me.  He detests this number-of-the-day process.   So I am trying to help by doing it with him which he does prefer.  ~  Even yesterday he flipped over the "binder" workbox card BEFORE we had done it.  I warned him about the future consequences of flipping cards over that we have not completed.
You could also simply use a dry erase board or paper (as suggested).  I didn't for the simple fact I did not want to get one more thing out or waste paper.  We may change things up occasionally and use the boards or paper just to keep this from being too painful a process.
I don't know why but this is NOT fun for either of us.    However...."we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope.  Romans 5:3-4  This is why I personally will not drop this activity this year (we dropped the daily-straw activity in K with my son...shhhh....and not to his detriment either....he can count by 10s)

Number of the Day Sheet (Days 10+)

Next to the "Number of the Day Sheet" is the "100 Chart".  I laminated it....not sure why....but I posted it and use a Sharpie to add the day.

Hanging on the rod from Left to Right:

1st:  All the proverbs sheets from Mama Jenn here.  Someone had posted on the "My Father's World 1st Grade" Facebook group the idea of printing them as multiple pages per sheet.  Mine are four per sheet, laminated, and posted in order of week.  I found a few cards to be missing (maybe because I am using the 2nd edition), and a few that didn't match MFW phrasing.  I made five additional pages here.
I will use these cards to help us to "continue to memorize and apply the proverb".

2nd (Meets Core Objectives):  These are four cards I made that include the Months of the Year, Days of the Week, and the Easter Rabbit Songs as well as our address with phone numbers and 911.  Here it is without our personal information.  The Easter Rabbit Song was one my mother learned in school and I learned it growing up.  I finally found it online - this is almost exactly how we sings it.  :) I am going to rotate through these every week.  I will start one card per week until we know them fairly well, then we will switch to doing one per day.

3rd:  The shape set (shown: cone) is from here.  I am rotating through the shape every week.  My son, already knows the simple shapes, but this adds in some 3D shapes that he does not know.  Once he knows them we will probably rotate it every day for practice and then eliminate the activity.

4th:  "Bean Cup"
5th:  "Coin Cup"
6th:  Supply cup - dry erase crayons & Sharpie marker.

These are all from IKEA - here are similar cups and hooks , and the rod.  (These are just helpful links - no affiliation)

Hanging over the bar is a paper chain for 1st grade (needs a new home).  I made enlisted my husband (actually he volunteered) to make a paper chain for the whole year.  I cut the paper strips and he assembled it.  I asked him to make it in sections of colors; five links of one color for each section.  For instances five yellow links removed = week completed.  This is why there is a small workbox card at the bottom of each day that looks like a paper chain...to remind my son to remove one chain.

Under the rod is a large calendar I purchased from DSS.  I purchased this when I first started our structured homeschool.  This worked well for kindergarten with my son, and I have a daughter part way through K, and one in Pre-K.  It works really well when I have several munchkins around to review it.  However, I don't recommend purchasing one for the purposes of 1st grade unless you are using the calendar with a group.  I would use a regular-sized calendar for the purposes of 1st grade only (used in the "Math" category).

Next post......contents of my son's binder.....

If this was helpful to you, or you have questions, or you'd like to see another part of our school sooner rather than later....would you please leave a comment.  I appreciate each and every one!
